One of the more exiting aspects of running a Website is the ability to collect a whole mass of information and arrange it in a cohesive manner. This can mean arranging in a simple list - like Famous people with an Ashtead connection (currently 25). Alternatively the lists can direct readers to more detailed information with links to other sites. Examples of this are ashtead at articles giving a local perspective and relevant charity's websites for The Children's Society, Christian Aid, Jubilee 2000, Marriage Resource, RNLI, YWAM.

But the Web allows much bigger combinations. One recent entry was NetAid famous for three live concerts and, of course, its Website. This was a joint effort between Cisco Systems, the world-wide leader in networking for the Internet, and UNDP, the Development Programme wing of the United Nations. The site aims to raise the awareness that 1.3 billion people live on less than $1 (about 60p) a day and also to raise funds for charities such as Christian Aid, Oxfam and Save the Children who work with such disadvantaged groups.

In projects such as these, the Web shows itself to be truly World Wide. Not only highlighting the differences between rich and poor but promoting a greater equality in our common world.
