Traditionally New Year is a time when promises are made to shed a few pounds at the Gym or take up a new exciting hobby. Why not start this new Millennium by offering to do some voluntary work in and around Ashtead? Christmas has a few suggestions:

Help the Aged Charity shop in Ashtead Village - contact Dheidre Williams (271795)

Save a life and Give Blood at Ashtead Peace Memorial Hall January 4th 2-4.30pm and 5.30-8.00pm, February 8th 2-4.30pm and 5.30-7.45pm or at the United Reformed Church in Leatherhead on 9th March 2-4.30pm and 5.30-8.00pm.

Dovecote Coffee and Bookshop in Epsom requires waiters and waitresses, washer-uppers and people to do the shopping. Could you offer two hours a fortnight or go on an emergency rota. You will get free tea, coffee, hot chocolate and half-price sandwiches. Please contact Jan Quartly (817707)

Dovecote Christian Bookshop in Epsom requires people to serve in the shop for 3-4 hour shifts, especially on Saturdays. Ideally you should be over 18. Please contact Sue Matthews (817707).

The Volunteer Bureau in Leatherhead is open on Thursday afternoons from 1-4pm and on the first and third Saturdays between 10am and 12 noon. Please contact Irene Loveridge or Tony Barrett (360110). It has a list of volunteer jobs available.

Leatherhead Night Hostel needs people in teams of two to keep the hostel open on Sundays. They also need people to go on a list for transporting goods and furniture, or do light DIY at the hostel. On Friday evenings they need meals provided which can be dropped off already cooked at the Hostel. If you can help with any of these things please contact Angela Carter 376508.
