It's Good to PrayThe past couple of years have been a challenge for Gordon and Linda Chapman. In March 1995, Gordon was struck down with a life-threatening illness. Their faith that God really did care for them was tested to the limit. Gordon needed major surgery followed by an extensive period of recuperation. "We thank God for the listening ears, the hugs, the cards through the door, the precious phone calls and the many loving visits we received." says Linda. Gordon recovered and returned to work, only to be made redundant last May. "We had learnt from our previous trauma that the best approach was to scream, shout and weep, but not panic," says Linda. "We had also learnt to ask the church to pray for us when things got tough and we could no longer pray for ourselves." "Looking back, God clearly had his plans for us! We'd often hoped that I could return some of my expertise to the community, to the clear benefit of other people," says Gordon. "I now work as the network manager for a comprehensive school helping equip the next generation for a rapid changing world where IT skills will be all-important. A large drop in salary but a large rise in people-contact." Gordon and Linda are looking forward to what God has in store for the next year. "Particularly to see how some of the changes in our lives will work out! Life's taken on a new and extremely exciting dimension.
