Missives from the Missions
The Parish of Ashtead supports mission projects all around the world, and many of our members have left us to help in this work. Here are some 'postcards', giving a taster of what they're up to this Christmas time.

Rianna's Furaha Children's Home, Yala in Kenya
We send greetings to you from Yala, Kenya. This is our first Christmas in operation, and the children have only been here a couple of months. They will all receive small gifts and we will be celebrating Christ's birth with them in the Home. On Christmas Day, we will cook them chicken, chapattis and rice, and they will drink juice and sing carols.
With peaceful Christmas blessings,
Your co-workers in Christ,
James and Eunice Aweyo

Tony and Louise Hargreaves and Family, Amsterdam
as a family, will be in Amsterdam over Christmas and busy with various ministries over this period.
We have a late-night service on 24 December for the guys of the street. We are open 26/27 for a hot meal - this is always a very busy event, and we serve somewhere in the region of 600 meals over these 2 days. We decorate the Cleft as a restaurant and we, as staff, wait on our guests. This is a time to really bless our friends from the neighbourhood and meet new people.
One of the things that is different about the Netherlands is they are not into Santa, or even giving presents at Christmas. They do, however, have St Nicholas who comes on 5 December on a white horse with his helpers giving gifts. This does take some adjusting to, but it does leave Christmas to be about what Christmas is about.
As a family we will have our Christmas on the 25th. We will have a real tree, which is a feat getting it up 3 flights of tight steps - and even more a feat getting it back down when it's dry.

Wade and Katherine Robertson, West Kilbride, Scotland
Thank you, Ashtead family, for valuing us as mission partners. We so appreciate your prayers and love and support. Christmas is always a time when we remember our families who are far away. We'll probably have two of our three children visit for part of the Christmas period. Things tend to quieten down for much of Youth with a Mission (YWAM) over Christmas. One of our ongoing roles in YWAM is our oversight and 'parenting' of many younger people in different parts of Scotland.
