Come and join St George's Centenary Celebrations
Celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of St George's Church next April will include a host of community events during six days of themed activities.

The opening of a time capsule, buried at the opening ceremony in 1906, will kick-start the celebrations on Tuesday, April 18, along with an exhibition of artefacts and memorabilia depicting the history of Ashtead through the decades.

An art-filled Wednesday, will include a chance to try your hand at drawing and painting, face painting, and an evening school concert to showcase local talent. Photographic workshops and an exhibition take place on Thursday, with a local drama group presentation in the evening. Musical Friday will include children's choirs, musical workshops and more evening performances.

Saturday is a family fun day, with St George's joining forces with the Woodman pub and Ashtead's Football Club - including a hog roast, competitions and prizes. The festivities will round off on Sunday with services led by the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Rt Rev Lord George Carey, who will plant a new time capsule.

The Rev Richard Jones said he was very excited about the forthcoming celebrations: "It will be an opportunity to give thanks to God and also a real chance to bring the Church and community closer together."

PS - to help create the exhibition in the Parish Room, do you have any memories or stories from any part of St. George's Century? Would you be happy to have an interview recorded? Or do you have any photos or other memorabilia we could borrow? If the answer is 'yes' to any of these questions, please contact Sharon Seal on 813200.
