SOULINTHECITY
Following on from Manchester - Message 2000 and last year's Festival: Manchester this summer it was London's turn with SOULINTHECITY.
Three thousand young people from all over the UK, including 56 from Ashtead, camped at one of the main bases in Uxbridge. Each morning they took a 25 minute walk to Uxbridge tube station and travelled from there into London to join the 7,000 other young people. With the support of a number of charities, local councils, 750 London churches and the Metropolitan Police, the 10,000 young people worked on over 420 community improvement projects ranging from organising daily sports clubs, painting windows, mending fences, digging gardens, re-building playing fields, clearing skate parks, re-decorating community areas, litter picking and generally serving the local community.

Not only did the young people do it for free, they also had to pay £75 for the privilege of sleeping in a tent in Middlesex, Eltham or Clapham. After hours of action many residents and community leaders were asking why? Why indeed? Because of Jesus, so why not?
