What do you do with your old Medicines?
If sealed and still in date, your unwanted medicines can be sent to rural clinics in Africa.
Intercare is a medical charity that gives medicinal support to individual medical units in seven African countries. Local African Catholic nuns, who are qualified as nurses, midwives and doctors, run the clinics. Each supported clinic is visited by Intercare, which monitors the receipt of every consignment. Deliveries go every few months to the same units, and contain only the medicines that are needed and requested.

Based in Leicester, Intercare guarantees that the medicines will be used to treat patients who would otherwise receive no medication. They currently enable clinics to provide basic healthcare support to approximately 2.5 million people in rural communities.

Donating your surplus medicines to Intercare can directly help them to continue and extend the support they give. The two surgeries in Ashtead have agreed to receive your surplus medicines, which will be collected by Rotarian Jack McFarlane and forwarded the organisers, to Intercare. Intercare has all the appropriate licences and authorities and is regularly inspected by the Home Office. Jack will provide further information on 273920.

Think of how those unused medicines in your cupboard will help someone in rural Africa. Please spare a few minutes to check the shelf and drop any unwanted medicines into your local surgery. For further details see www.intercare.org.uk
