Christmas Celebrates the Lamb

One of Jesus' names is the "Lamb of God", and verger Ken Lane's favourite Christmas poem plays with this idea. "It's set to music by John Tavener, and the tune is hauntingly wonderful," says Ken. "The poem reminds me of why we celebrate Christmas".

Come and hear it performed at the Nine Lessons and Carols service on December 22, 6.00pm at St Giles' Church. "For me it puts a different view of the Christ Child at Christmas," says Ken Lane.

The Lamb - by William Blake
Little lamb, who made thee?
Dost thou know who made thee?
Gave thee life, and bid thee feed
By the stream and o'er the mead;
Gave thee clothing of delight,
Softest clothing, woolly, bright;
Gave thee such a tender voice,
Making all the vales rejoice?
Little lamb, who made thee?
Dost thou know who made thee?
Little Lamb, I'll tell thee,
Little Lamb, I'll tell thee,
He is called by thy name,
For he calls Himself a lamb,
He is meek, and He is mild;
He became a little child.
I a child, and thou a lamb,
We are called by His name,
Little lamb, God bless thee!
Little lamb, God bless thee!
Travelling with Purpose
Ashtead's young people have been going to different corners of the world. They have had many life-building experiences, and at the same time have given many people the chance of hearing the good news that Jesus Christ loves them. See article Looking out from Ashtead for more details.
