| A showery August Bank Holiday Saturday saw 220 people set off for a Parish Houseparty at Ashburnham Place in Sussex. | ||
| The sun came out for the first stop at Bewl Water where everyone met up to play games, walk, ride bikes,
go on a steamboat ride on the lake, eat, chat and have fun as a family.
"We travelled on to Ashburnham, settled in and explored the beautiful 220 acres," explained organiser Clive Trapmore. "After dinner on the first evening we were treated to home-grown entertainment - what talent in our midst, Stars in your Eyes watch out!" Then the weekend swung into action with children's groups, young people's activities and amazing talks by Rev Mike Breen from St Thomas' Church, Sheffield, a speaker able to relate to all ages. "He talked about David, of Goliath fame, with such knowledge, humour and inspiration, that we were all enthralled," said Clive. What else? Good food, comfortable beds, crafts, games, sailing on the lake, music, worship and a stupendous fireworks display over the lake at night - everyone went home exhausted and exhilarated after the weekend having made new friendships and deepened others. When's the next one? April 2003 - we can't wait!
