Beyond St George's

After eight years, Churchwarden Alaisdair Wallace sees a dream turning into reality.

The building project at St George's Church is at last within sight of completion. Unsurprisingly, it has not proved immune to building problems, and the opening will now be delayed until the Spring. In the meantime, Alaisdair and his team are planning how to make the best possible use of the new facilities. As well as the re-furbished church itself, there will be a modern hall, several smaller meeting rooms, and a Café open to all passing by.

Having a dedicated centre manager will really open up the options. For example, the Centre could be used to host Parenting courses (highlighted in responses to the Ashtead Village Day Questionnaire), to include both church and health-sector trainers. Everyone involved is feeling very enthusiastic. "After all this time, I can hardly believe we're nearly there," says Alaisdair.
