		In Pursuit of the Picturesque William Gilpin, Joan Percy (Editor): Published 2001 by Surrey Gardens Trust, 116 pages, 90 illustrations, paperback In August 1768, William Gilpin, then headmaster of Cheam School, travelled in the local area writing about the local estates - including Ashtead Park and Denbies (now Denbies Wine Estate) The book also includes research carried out by members of the Surrey Gardens Trust and can also be purchased directly from them Includes 6 pages about Ashtead with 2 maps and 4 pictures of Ashtead Park. One of the maps is John Rocque's map of Surrey 1768, where the village is called Asted. One of the pictures is an etching by Thomas Hearne, engraved by Letitia Byrne entitled A Scene in Ashted Park.
