Nigel Perona-Wright Parish Choir Director |
Nigel is the choirmaster of St Giles' and leads the choir there at the 11.30am and 6pm services each Sunday. He is also responsible for directing the parish choir for combined special services such as Harvest Thanksgiving, the Advent carol service and the traditional service of 9 Lessons and Carols, and he meets wedding couples who want a service with organ and/or choir, to discuss their marriage service and musical requirements.
He has been involved in church music ever since he was a boy treble at Westminster Abbey, and before he took over as the Ashtead choir director, he sang as a bass for eighteen years in the professional chapel choir at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea.
Nigel also trained as a flautist at the Royal Academy of Music, and in addition to having a private teaching practice, he teaches flute, recorder and music theory at City of London Freemen's School, Ashtead.

His main musical commitment is as director of the vocal and multi-instrumental quartet, Dragonsfire, which he founded with his wife, Hilary, who also performs with the group. Dragonsfire specialises in music from various different historical periods, particularly the Renaissance, performed using costume and instruments of the period. Engagements have taken the group throughout the British Isles, Europe, the Channel Islands, Canada and the Middle East. Dragonsfire has several recordings available. |
