The new Parish web site is a major resource for anyone living in Ashtead. It includes a colour version of ashtead at with links between articles as well as links out to the Internet. It also has over 250 external links including over 100 sites listing local places of interest, links to local school pages and the all important DfEE performance tables and OFSTED reports etc. There are links to train and plane timetables and Surrey County Council where you can check on air quality monitoring, or search for books in Ashtead Library. We also have links to general interest sites such as tax information, local police, local newspapers, weather forecasts and local street maps. "Everyone with access to the World Wide Web has a reason to call in," says site manager Andy Carter.

Andy also explains the idea behind our site. "In 1450 Johannes Guttenburg invented the printing press, but it was not until 1873 that Melvil Dewey came up with the Dewey Decimal Classification System so you could consistently and reliably find the book you wanted in a library. So for over 400 years the best you could do was either know all the books yourself or ask a librarian. The Internet is today's library, that can lead you to an estimated 500 million pages of information. The Parish web site aims to be the 'librarian' for Ashtead information."
