New drop-in centre for Ashtead

A Saturday Lunch Club will open its doors for the first time on 19 September at the Youth Centre on Barnett Wood Lane

Ashtead Christian Churches

From 12 noon to 3.00pm the drop-in centre will provide lunch each Saturday to any one in need but especially people with mental health problems. The club is part of the growing commitment by the Ashtead Christian Churches to respond to local needs.

Mental health problems affect as many as 1 in 5 people. Tricia Tufnell and Caroline King from St Michael's Catholic Church speak of the stigma surrounding mental health problems. "We are responding to a great need locally. Many people feel loneliness and depression at some time. The club will offer comfort and care as well as good food." The community Mental Health Team will also provide advice and support for the centre.

Anyone interested in helping or attending should contact Tricia Tufnell (721917), Caroline King (277140), Pauline White (813187) or Rosemary Bull (273647).
