Recycling which benefits everyone

Imagine collecting goods - in good condition, but unwanted - from a wealthy area, transporting them to a poverty-stricken inner city district, selling them at affordable prices, and giving the proceeds to vital work with the elderly. It happens! Just such a scheme has been operating in Ashtead for several years. "It's a tremendous to recycle baby equipment, clothes and furniture, bringing a double benefit to the people of Tower Hamlets in Stepney," said Christine Stansfield, a participating Ashtead resident.

Other activities in Ashtead help children in Stepney. New toys and dried food are donated prior to Christmas, and disadvantaged children visit Ashtead annually. At the Parish Fair (November 16th) there will be a stall of quality Christmas decorations to raise money for this year's visit.
