New Boys on the Block!

Deputy Rector Jonathan Perkin and the Parish's second Curate Simon Thomas, joined the clergy staff team as Ashtead at Easter magazine went to press. We catch up with Jonathan and Simon to see how they are settling in…

Johnathan, Alexander, Julia and Timothy

Jonathan and his wife Julia, together with Alexander (5) and Timothy (3), have come from Cullompton, Devon, where he was a curate.

Jonathan caused a stir within just a few weeks. While preaching one Sunday he compared becoming a Christian to being like someone who had always worked or shoped in Sainsbury's switching to Tesco's. The following week Sainsbury's announced a fall in profits - the first fall for many a year. One of the main reasons: stiff competition from Tesco!

Simon and Carly Thomas, with children Laura (10), Megan (8) and Joel (6) have just come back to this country after some 17 years in South America.

During his Easter Sunday sermon, Simon stripped off his clerical garb to reveal running gear underneath. Anyone there saw him do it and knew it had happened - anyone who only heard about it had to believe the reports. This was just like Easter. The first disciples had met with a living Jesus after his death. Those of us who live now are challenged to believe their reports.

PS. If you see Simon out running, do call out because he won't be able to see you without his glasses!
