Work on the new children's home in Yala, Kenya, has been completed and it is due to open this autumn, thanks in part to the hard-work of a team from Youth with a Mission, supported by youngsters from Ashtead and Ashtead's Rector, Bob Kiteley.

The 25-strong team, headed by YWAM's Jeremy Weightman, visited Yala in July, and were involved in decorating, painting and plastering, clearing land to establish a football pitch as well as putting in a new road to the home.

The home - to be known as Rianna's Furaha (Swahili for Joy) Children's Home - will cater for up to 40 orphaned children.

Bob Kiteley said the trip had been a life-transforming experience for him: "My eyes have really been opened and I have been deeply challenged by my visit. The openness and passion for the Lord among the people in Yala was absolutely fantastic," he said.

Rianna's Fund trustee Malcolm Leighton said he was delighted the new hall at the home, which will also be used by the local community, has been completed. Rianna's Fund's logo, a dragonfly, has been painted above the hall's entrance as a mark of thanks for the funds raised by the Ashtead-based appeal.
