St Giles' School - Fundraising A+
Earlier this year, a fundraising campaign at St Giles' School came to a very successful conclusion. The staff and pupils are now enjoying the essential significant extra space and facilities. In addition to the money raised, however, the campaign also succeeded in putting many smiles on faces along the way.

One fundraising event - As Time Goes By - included a show of some very old cine film. Alaisdair Wallace, St George's Christian Centre manager, had a big surprise in store when he first saw the film.
Photo Alaisdair Wallace At one point a boy turned round to the camera with a big grin on his face. Alaisdair took some time to focus and then shouted out: "It's me." He was on film, eating his meal on the sloping desks in class!

Alaisdair started at St Giles' in January 1946 dressed in short-trousers, aged four-and-a-half. His was the first year to return to St Giles' following the conclusion of WW2. He fondly remembers the gas lighting and his reception class teacher, Ms Aspinall. Alaisdair also recognised a few faces from the past, including a few of who still live in Ashtead today.
