| Autumn can be a difficult time for parents. Whether your child is starting nursery or school for the first time or leaving for university, letting go is never easy. | ||

Learning to prepare children for independence is part of the Family Caring Trust parenting courses, and provides plenty of material for discussion.
At what age do you expect your child to make their own packed lunch or walk to school?
Do you feel comfortable allowing your teenager to travel to Wembley for a pop concert and then home on the train late at night?
These are some of the situations that have been discussed in past parenting courses. However, the parenting course material teaches us that 'positive parents learn to withdraw into the background to support rather than do things for their children. They keep their eyes on the long-term goal of encouraging self confidence, responsibility and self discipline as their children become teenagers'. Easier said than done? Why not join us on one of our courses? If you are interested please contact Sarah Boswell or Ruth Hopper (Teenagers) and Kate Green (5-11 years) via the St George's Christian Centre. | |
