Harvest reminds us of the fruitfulness of hard labour over many months. In days gone by it was an even greater time of celebration, joy and thanksgiving than it is today. | ||
Harvest is a time of thankfulness to God for his provision.
The chorus of a well known harvest hymn comes to mind, 'All good gifts around us are sent from Heaven above, then thank the Lord, O thank the Lord for all his love'.
God's greatest love gift to us is Jesus Christ his Son.
He suffered, died, and rose again from the dead so that the harvest of our lives might produce everlasting peace and joy, now and in the New World to come when he returns.
Harvest reminds us that God's love is generous and sacrificial. Our love should express the same sacrifice and generosity. Jesus said, "There is more happiness in giving than receiving" and "store up riches in heaven where moths and rust cannot destroy." How do we discover this happiness and store up riches in heaven? By putting our trust in Christ and following his teaching, "Give to others and God will give to you… a generous helping… the measure you use for others is the one that God will use for you." Our world has enough resources to meet the needs of all humanity. The hungry wait to feed upon the harvests of others when theirs has failed. The world today still has many places of desperate need, where our generosity can be shown. |
