Macmillan Butterfly Centre

The movement of one butterfly can, it is said, change the whole world. The The Macmillan Butterfly Centre at Epsom Hospital aims to change the world for anyone affected by cancer.

In the year since it opened, a great variety of people have visited the Centre. Some are looking for information from the resource library, others for company and a listening ear and others are worried and are seeking reassurance. Some come to out-patient clinics, support groups or massage and other relaxation therapies.

The centre is staffed by experienced cancer professionals supported by a small army of volunteers. "My involvement began when I attended a support group and clinic after cancer surgery," explains Ashtead resident Pat Barrow. "I heard of the need for volunteers and I like a challenge." Pat was given training and recently started working on the reception desk when the regular volunteer can't make it.

"It's a joy to be there, it is so friendly and relaxing even when some of the visitors are really sad and troubled," says Pat. "I really hope that everyone will hear about the Butterfly Centre, visit it and experience the care and support we have to offer."

For more information on the Centre or how to volunteer your help call Pat (273683) or the Information Officer, Tarlika Patel (735456).
