Ashtead was pleased to welcome the Biberach Boys Choir in July - their concert was a great success.
Choir Introducing themselves
| Ten years after Wendy Legg of Ashtead taught in Biberach, she received a letter suggesting a visit from the town's boys' choir.
After much thought and planning the tour came off. As a result, forty-one members of this Southern-German choir aged from 9 to 25 stayed with families around the village.
"The choir comes from a Catholic congregation that shares its church with the Protestants who live in Biberach, a town on the Swiss and Austrian boarders. It was fitting, then, that the Anglican, Catholic and Baptist churches in Ashtead all played a role in hosting them," explained David Mitchell-Baker who helped organise their stay. "The aim is that while they provide superb music, the travelling enables the boys to build their confidence and gain a real appreciation of international diversity." They performed mainly classical music, much of which was unaccompanied, and their tour also included concerts in France, the Channel Isles and Belgium. "We had wonderful support from the hosts and many others who made the visit so successful and hopefully started some new friendships," says David.
