Prolific author, and singer at St Michael's, Kevin McCormack has just published his twelfth book in 10 years.
His lifelong fondness of transport started when aged 8 he was given a bus-spotting book and at 18 he bought an Austin 7 that he still drives.
Kevin came to Ashtead in 1978.
"My publishing started with The Heyday of London's Buses", enthuses Kevin, "after that the publisher, just wanted more and more".
Both the recently reprinted Streets of London and latest The Heyday of the Half-cab typify Kevin's style.
"Real pictures should tell the story of the period and have people, cars, shops and street furniture not just close ups of buses," he says.

"One thing I find really encouraging", says Ashtead Horticultural Society chairman Colin Cheeseman, "is the number of young people involved with the society". What makes this more remarkable is that the society is over 125 years old. Part of the anniversary celebrations involved the writing of a book about the society's origins and history. "It is surprising to look back and find such close ties between the society and the church", remarks Colin. Blood and Justice is Pete Moore's latest book. Pete has lived in Ashtead for 10 years and edits this magazine.
This book tells the story of the first blood transfusions which occurred in Paris, Oxford and London in the 1660s.
"They were transfusing blood from animals to humans, and not surprisingly some of the patients died, leading to an intriguing court case," says Pete.
"It has been great fun researching the book and should be a good read if you like a combination of science and history."

St Giles' School has produced a book as it celebrates its 150th anniversary. The Story of St Giles' School is well-illustrated and entertaining, and covers the period during which Ashtead grew rapidly. It has been fascinating seeing the life of the school as it reflects the development of the life of the village", says Chairman of Governors Gill Northcott, "it's really a potted social history of Ashtead". Copies are available from St George's Church, some local shops and the Leatherhead Museum. All profits will go to the School Building Fund. | ||
