A New Councillor on the Block

Congratulations to John Northcott who in May was elected for the first time to represent the Ashtead Common Ward on Mole Valley District Council. John shares this responsibility with Blanche Dunglass, both standing as Independents.

A metallurgist, John retired last year from British Steel where he had been working as a Business Development Manager. He is known to many as a regular sidesman at the 9:30 St George's service.

John and his wife Gill have lived in Ashtead for over 15 years, and they enjoy the village atmosphere and vibrant community. Gill is chairman of the governors of St Giles' School and frequently John is to be seen helping with fêtes etc. He is also on the South London Board of the Prince's Trust.

Long-term residents of Ashtead may be interested to know that John did his National Service with Richard Askew, a previous rector of Ashtead.

ashtead at Harvest wishes him well in his new post.
