…and From Other Recent Elections

The new churchwarden balances books by day and opinions by night.

John Kester was recently elected as one of two churchwardens. He is now jointly responsible with Alaisdair Wallace for looking after the upkeep of two churches, two church halls, and several houses. Having settled in, he is still "very excited" about the role, if sometimes also a bit daunted.

"An operation this size couldn't function without the voluntary support of a lot of other people," says John.

Drawing a wide range of opinions together to arrive at broad agreement on the church's way forward is one of the most challenging and satisfying elements of the role.

His early experience as an accountant in local building firms is now coming in very useful indeed for understanding the building issues, but nothing quite prepared him for some recent amateur tree surgery.

John is supported by his wife, Carol, who also carries out other work for the church; in particular, it was she who organised the people who brought this magazine to your door.
