A church - is it down your lane?
The Lanes Church opened at Parsons Mead School last September and meets each Sunday morning at 10:30 for an informal service. Its congregation, initially an over-spill of members of St George's, wants to reach people in a friendly and accessible way. "We aim to offer warmth and friendship," says Peter Levinsohn, who is especially responsible for welcoming people. "I believe most people meet God when they meet others who already have a relationship with him." Heading the children's team, Barbara Leighton is delighted with the facilities available in the classrooms. Ranging from three to eleven, the youngsters are involved in many activities revolving round the Bible stories. "But children need their say in order to develop enquiring minds," says Barbara. "We want to engage the children where they are, not use the time for a one way flow of ideas." Under the guidance of the rector Chris Hughes, Peter Dawson carries the major responsibility for the running of the church. He is pleased that this new 'off-shoot' has an open and relaxed atmosphere. "Our aim is to serve the needs of the immediate community," he says. With this in mind, Peter plans to develop the social side of the church. "We carry an important message of course, but it can also be fun and the Easter message is particularly thrilling." Please check out our new website for all the latest information sgsgashtead.com | ||
