If music be the food of love, play on!
Celebrate the centenary this April by coming along to any of the following special concerts at St George's Church and Christian Centre. The music day on Friday 21 April will offer a selection of music to suit all tastes. Jazz up your lunchtime by enjoying a performance by the City of London Freemen's School Jazz Band. The group of 14 students, aged 15-18 years, will perform lively hits such as Jungle Boogie, Basin Street Blues and 2 o'clock jump under the direction of Paul Sogaard. If you enjoy the excitement and rhythm of trumpet, saxophone, piano and bass, this is a lunchtime treat not to be missed. The concert begins at 1.30pm. From 8pm on Friday 21st, classical music lovers are invited to enjoy a performance of Noye's Fludde by Benjamin Britten. This piece will include over 60 local musicians including a chamber orchestra, handbell ringers and recorder players. Conductor Nigel Perona-Wright, Ashtead Parish Choir Conductor, says: "We have chosen this special piece because it includes so many people - we even have 40 Ashtead youngsters who will become Noah's children and animals from the Ark!" The concert is scheduled to end at 9.15pm when refreshments will be available. A fun evening is scheduled for Saturday 22nd with a concert provided by local talent. 'Home grown entertainment' will feature local musicians such as Mark Evans playing cor anglais, poetry from Christine Bailey and dance from Jenny Moore, while Trevor Danby will read one of his own poignant short stories. Beginning at 7.30pm, this final concert in the week of celebration is guaranteed to be a fun evening as we are entertained by high quality, local Ashtead talent. | ||
