| Your invitation to a photographic celebration of Ashtead | ||
Fancy yourself as the next David Hockney?
To mark this celebration time in Ashtead, St George's Church is launching a photographic competition and exhibition - and you are invited to enter.
Open to all who live, worship or work in Ashtead, the competition is split between two age groups - under 16s and 16 and over - and there is a wide selection of categories for you to enter:

| Prizes will be awarded to both age groups in each category as well as an overall 'best under 16' and 'best 16 and over'.
Prizes include picture frames and overall winners will have their pictures professionally framed by The Framing Workshop in The Street.
Local photographer Andy Carter, one of the three judges, said: "There is so much beauty right on our doorstep and one of the best ways to capture this for people to enjoy over the next 100 years is through photography. Powerful images can tell such a story, so we invite all local people to send us images capturing what Ashtead means to them." The judges will be looking for reasonable technical skills and a spark of originality whether in composition or interpretation. Closing date for entries is 12 noon Sunday 2 April, and all photographs should be sent - with name and contact details clearly marked on the reverse - to St George's Christian Centre reception. Winners will be announced on Easter Sunday, 16 April 2006, on church notices and on Ashtead website. Winning images will also be displayed at St George's Christian Centre from Thursday 20 April. If this competition whets your appetite, why not also take part in the photographic day in the main week of centenary celebrations? Come along to St George's from 10am on Thursday 20 April to learn more about digital photography and photographic manipulation. There is even a workshop for 8 to 16 year olds at 4pm. | ||
