| Tens of thousands of people are expected to descend on London in April to take part in a Global Week of Action for Trade Justice to make poverty history. | ||
Trade Justice march last April The highlight of the campaign will be a week of action from 10-16 April. This will kick off with a Fast for Trade Justice on Monday 11 April, where people will be encouraged to join solidarity with the 850 million people who go to bed hungry every night. It will end with an all-night vigil on 15/16 April, which will see Whitehall bathed in candlelight, to be followed by a dawn procession past Downing Street. The campaign's main aim is to convince developed countries that poor countries have the right to help and support for their own agriculture and other vulnerable sectors, such as fishing and minerals. The current system means that millions of farmers are left to compete with cheap imports that flood their markets. Local MP Chris Grayling will be chairing a special meeting during the campaign week at St Michael's Church on 13 April, which will be addressed by a speaker from CAFOD.
