Is this Art?
Have you noticed that occasionally graffiti has style, class and is creative - it has been drawn by someone with talent?
Most of us have seen graffiti on walls, garage doors, even trains, which the 'powers-that-be' try to remove almost before the paint is dry. Have you ever thought it deserved a wider audience? That it should be displayed where all can see it, rather than in dark unfrequented corners or in shadows where the artist feels safe?

Maybe we should encourage graffiti artists to liven up those 'sad' blank spaces in Ashtead. Maybe we should supply paints for these gifted people. Maybe we should have displays of artists' work. Maybe these people will feel involved in our community. Maybe we should start by having a graffiti board at the Ashtead Village Day. Just maybe the unwanted naff graffiti art will disappear and our environment will be all the better. Maybe…?
