Ordained as a Baptist Minister in 1981, four years later Steve Chalke founded the Oasis Trust in Peckham, south London, as a hostel for homeless young people. Now Oasis has over 300 staff, students and volunteers, pioneering educational, healthcare and housing initiatives in the UK, India, Brazil, Zimbabwe and beyond.

Steve's contributions are to be found regularly in national newspapers and magazines. Author of 26 books, he is a respected commentator on issues such as parenting, marriage, education, charity, poverty, homelessness and the developing world. He has also reached a wider audience through radio and television, including GMTV and Songs of Praise. Last year he was appointed presenter of Changing Places on BBC Radio 4, reporting on ordinary people who have worked to transform their community.
