'Mooved' to Help

The Link Group, which meets on a monthly basis at St George's, has chosen Send-a-Cow as its charity this year.

Send-a-Cow started when a group of Devon farmers were appalled by the tragic destruction of Uganda's agricultural sector by first Idi Amin and then Milton Obote. Fifteen years later Send-a-Cow has become one of the most prominent Christian farming charities in East Africa, and is involved in cow, goat, chicken and camel projects in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Lesotho.

The Link Group recently heard how the gift of one cow can make an enormous difference for desperate East African families. It enables them not only to combat malnutrition with protein-rich milk but also provides them with an income from the sale of surplus milk to start up small businesses. Manure from the cows also helps boost crop production.

Families can invest their income in a better and sustainable future - female calves are passed on to other needy residents.
