A parenting course is providing an opportunity for several Ashtead parents to discover more of the truths behind what makes a 'good' parent.
Robin Burnett at home with his family Bringing up children is one of the most challenging jobs there is, but after antenatal classes most of us are on our own. To overcome this, a small group of 12 mums and 1 dad are meeting on Friday mornings using a course produced by "The Family Caring Trust". It is based on learning skills to help parents become more effective. "We meet as an informal group in someone's home, for seven sessions looking at different topics including communication, discipline and independence." says course organiser Julia Perkin, whose husband is the deputy Rector. "We soon learnt that there is no 'right answer' and that all parents and children are different," says course member Robin Burnett. "The most important thing I have learnt is to listen more - useful in all life situations! I have also discovered that it is good to talk with parents in similar situations as myself." The current course is for parents with primary school aged children. New courses will be arranged, please contact the Parish Office if interested (813332). | ||
