On 30 April, Tim Weeks will represent Great Britain in the 20 - 24 age group at the 12th ITU World Triathlon Championships in Perth, Australia.

Having grown up in Ashtead, Tim now studies Sports Science and Geography at Loughborough University. He also fits in three training sessions a day and a rigorous competition schedule.

In triathlon races competitors swim one section, cycle another and finishing with a run. The Perth race will be over the Olympic distance; 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run.

The sport is making its Olympic debut in Sydney this year. "Great Britain excels at the event and has a number of medal contenders both in the men's and women's fields," says Tim.

It takes dedication and real determination. "I only do it because I love it," laughs Tim. "It's an amazing sport. If you believe in yourself and want something enough, anything is possible". Tim's last words to his father before he died in March 1997 were "I'm going to reach the very top in triathlon. I'll do it for you. I promise".
